The inaugural step of the new circuit of the World Poker Tour Alpha8 Florida was held this week inside the poker room of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino of Hollywood, in Florida. 21 registrations for 18 players were recorded during this event at $100,000 of buy-in, but the field was reduced to 9 players during the Day 2. Matt Glantz started the day with the biggest stack, followed by other poker players such as JC Tran, Jason Mercier, Isaac Haxton, Steven Silverman, Joseph Cheong, Bill Perkins, Jeff Gross and Daniel Alaei. Bill Perkins was the first who left the table without being paid. A little time after, Jason Mercier, Daniel Alaei, Joseph Cheong and Isaac Haxton were eliminated before the ITM (In The Money) with 4 players, which guaranteed a minimum gain of $243,180. The chipleader at the start of the day, Matt Glantz, was the next player who left the table. His elimination at the first paid place allowed him to pocket $243,180. The three remaining players, Jeff Gross, Steven Silverman and JC Tran, took a break after the elimination of Matt Glantz.

The WPT Foundation is an association which gathers professional players of poker, celebrities, artists and sportsmen, in order to support charitable organizations. Last weekend, the association organized a charitable poker tournament to support the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation, charities aiming at promoting the integration of young people inside society, through sport and education. Baptized «The Frank Mariani & Jerry Buss No Limit Hold'em Poker Classic », the event gathered 57 personalities in the poker room of Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, among whom professional poker players such as David Chiu and Toto Leonidas, and also high-level sportsmen like the former tennis player Vince Van Patten. During this event, the lure of gain was forgotten even if every one knows well to play poker, for the advantage of generosity and the WPT Foundation collected $7,800. The quintuple winner of the WSOP, David Chiu, has even given one of his bracelets in honor of the former boss of the Los Angeles Lakers deceased this year, Jerry Buss.

After a very full Day 3 which was marked by the participation of 100 survivors of the previous days, the Main Event of the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open continues its progress, with the Day 4 in which 21 players took the departure. After the Season IX full of surprises, which ended with the victory of Steve O'Dwyer during the European Poker Tour Grand Final Monte-Carlo, the circuit starts the new season with the Spanish step, which is currently taking place at the poker room of Casino of Barcelona. The Christchurch Casino of Christchurch, in New Zealand, was the host of the New Zealand Poker Championship (NZPC), during a week. The Main Event was the event the most expected by players of Pacific-Asia region, during this poker event. 127 players paid the NZ$1,500 buy-in to take part in the event and generated a prizepool of NZ$190,500. The 16 best players of this poker tournament entered in the ITM and were rewarded with a minimum gain of NZ$5,500, against NZ$47,000 for the winner. The NZPC Main Event 2013 has just beaten its own record of attendance of last year, an event which gathered 90 players and was won by Paul Hockin.

After the Queenstown Snowfest, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) continues its Season VII with a step in Melbourne. The poker room of Crown Casino in Melbourne will be the host of this fifth step of the APPT. The key point of this poker tournament remains the Main Event, planned in the beginning of September, but the battle will start on Sunday with the No Limit Hold’em Accumulator, of $50 buy-in. Eleven events will be planned during these 16 days, from August 25th to September 9th, of this Australian poker festival, for a buy-in ranging from $50 to $3,000. The Main Event of the APPT Melbourne 2013 will be held from September 5th to 9th, for a buy-in of $3,000 instead of $5,000, over two last years. The Mediterranean region will be very animated in October with two poker events, precisely one in Morocco and the other on the Mediterranean Sea, on a cruise ship. Becoming a very much appreciated poker destination by Europeans, especially French, during these last years, Tangier will be once again the host of a poker tournament, from October 30th to November 3rd 2013. Alan Gold started the final table as chipleader, with more than 4 million chips, while his direct pursuer had 600,000 chips less, Daragh Davey (3,435,000). This final table was one of the fastest in poker tournament, because it took only four hours to determine the winner. The Scottish, known to be able to play poker well, pocketed €187,494 and free tickets for the four next steps of the Season IV, namely the UKIPT Series 3 in London, UKIPT London, UKIPT Isle of Man and UKIPT Nottingham, from September 27th of this year.

This poker tournament was marked by the lost of some well known players outside the ITM, following the example of Daniel Bavec, Hana Soljan, Liam Flood, Chris Derrick, Dave Masters, Jon Kalmar or John Magill.

The edition 2013 of the APPT Sydney Poker Championships has been taking place since last week, at the poker room of Star Sydney Casino & Hotel, in Australia. For its buy-in of $3,000, 88 poker players have been registered during the Day 1A, in which 41 players survived. These survivors of the Day 1A were joined by the 61survivors of the Day 1B, on a field of 139 players. 102 players started the Day 3 and the competition continued until there were only 11 players on the table. The final table was established when Phi Yuu and Sailendra Sa were eliminated. Aaron Benton was the chipleader at the beginning of the final table, with 1,050,000 chips. The runner-up of the Main Event of the APPT Queenstown, Daniel Laidlaw, was also among the 9 finalists, alongside Brad Fowle, Kwong Phung, Michael Kanaan, Michael Weiss, Robert Spano, Michael Doodson and Tony Kambouroglou.

Announced in July, the World Poker Tour Alpha8 is a new international circuit, which stands out by these tournaments of $100,000 buy-in minimum. This new series of High Roller poker tournament will take place in North America, Europe, Asia and South Africa. Apart from the very high buy-in, like the one of the One Drop High Roller of the WSOP, whose buy-in is amounted at $111,111, the WPT Alpha8 stands out by its 8-handed final table. As its name indicates, the final table is played between 8 players, but not 6 as we are used to see at the final tables of the World Poker Tour. From March 16th, 2014, poker fans will be able to follow this FOX Sports 1 tournament in streaming live. The program will be presented by the delightful Lynn Gilmartin. The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open will inaugurate from next August 26th, the new circuit with the WPT Alpha8 Florida.

The UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) is one of the most select poker tournaments in the United Kingdom. Since last July 27th, Ireland hosted the UKIPT Galway, which has 60 tournaments. The Main Event of €1,100 buy-in, which started in July 8th, is the key point of this Irish poker festival, but other events attracted the attention of a large number of players. The major events of this week were the final table of the High Roller tournament and the one of the Irish Poker Championship. 36 players have paid the High Roller’s buy-in of € 2,200, but only six players survived up to the final table. Sergio Aido Espina won the event and a gain of € 24,450€, after a few hours of battle with Kyle Maguire, Dermot Blain, Chris Day, Jan Przysucha and Niall Farrell. As a reminder, the Spanish won the WPT National Series of Barcelona in October 2012 and the NLH Event of the UKIPT London, in last month of March.

After Vienna and Madrid, Montenegro will be the host of the next step of the Mega Poker Series (MPS). The MPS Montenegro is an opportunity not to miss to visit the Balkans and the seaside resorts along the Adriatic Sea. This poker tournament will be held from September 25th to 29th, in the poker room of Maestral Resort & Casino. This sumptuous establishment stands out by its location on a rocky peninsula of the Pržno’s coast. The place offers an idyllic setting for vacationers and a new poker destination for enthusiasts of this cards game. In last April, on the occasion of the second step of MPS held in Madrid, the Australian Hanh Tran won the Main Event, after heads-up with the French Yehoram Baroukh Houri. Tran pocketed €34,000 for this conquest in Spanish land, in front of 351 other players.

The organizers of the Australian poker championship, known under the noun Aussie Millions, have revealed the program of the next edition of the circuit for 2014. This great appointment of enthusiasts of poker in the southern hemisphere will take place as usually, at Crown Casino of Melbourne, in Australia. The Aussie Millions 2014 will include 20 events which will be held from January 23rd to February 10th, 2014. Players can participate in each event, for a buy-in between $1,100 and $250,000. This Australian poker event will start with the No-Limit Hold'em AU$1,100, but the key point of this poker tournament remains the Aussie Millions Main Event. This event will be accessible for $10,000 and will extend over 7 days. In last February, the event was won by Mervin Chan, on a field of 629 players. It was the case for Tommy Vedes, Alex Phahurat, Grant Hinkle, TJ Cloutier, the winner of the CPPT Venitian Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, the holder of the WSOP bracelet, Chance Kornuth, or the November Nine Rob Salaburu.

In last May, the organizers of the World Series of Poker Europe presented the schedule of the circuit. As planned, this event will take place in France, at Casino Barrière of Enghien-les-Bains, from next October 11th to 25th. After Cannes, the WSOP Europe changes destination this year and come in Paris, the city of lights. Traditional event which was introduced in 1977 at the WSOP, the Ladies Event of this year is accessible for a buy-in of €1,100 and the winner of the event can cry out loud and clear his title of champion of Europe, thanks to this new bracelet.

The weekend was full for poker lovers of the Southern Center of the United States, with the Card Player Poker Tour Choctaw, held since Saturday at Choctaw Casino Resort of Durant, in Oklahoma. After the two departure days, 99 players survived, among which 30 during the Day 1A who where joined on Sunday by the 66 survivors of the Day 1B. The chipleader of the second departure day, Arthur Morris, the one who succeeded the most to play poker well during these first days, is the leader at the start of the Day 2, with a stack of 585,500 chips.

Since last week, the poker room of Sky City casino of Queenstown knew a significant attendance because of the sixth and last step of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT). 126 players took the departure of the Main Event; but after a few days of competition, only 9 players reached the final table, which guaranteed a minimum gain of more than $10,000. Already chipleader during the Day 2 and Day 3, Jonathan Bredin kept his advance till the end of the competition and pocketed the NZD 93,000, or € 55,230 promised to the winner.

The third departure day of the Main Event of the ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest was held on Thursday, with the participation of 47 players. By combining the three days of departure, this event gathered 126 participants. At the end of the day, 18 players survived and will joint the survivors of the two firsts entry days of the Main Event. Been used to the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour and especially this step of Queenstown, Bryan Huang was at the top of the chart at the Day 1C, with a stack of 99,425 chips. He will be also the chipleader of the set of the Day 1C and the start of the Day 2, which will take place at the poker room of Sky City casino of Queenstown, this Friday. With three participations at the ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest, Huang has always reached twice the final table and this could be the right year, after a good start at the Day 1. Bryan Huang finished at the 9th place in 2010 and at the 7th place in 2012.

This week, the French Gambling authority of online gambling (ARJEL) published a new report which revealed the hidden face of the market of online poker in France. According to this survey, the market is overdrawn but some operators managed to be more competitive, while others have difficulty to survive. But as usually, the ARJEL doesn’t give a name. In 2012, the market of the French online poker registered 6,182 million euro bets in cash game and 1,397 million euro of buy-in in tournaments. The Gross Gaming Revenue of operators of online poker rose in 297 million euro. By subtracting 37% of the Gross Gaming Revenue which corresponds to the VAT, the operators have 186 million euro of Net Profit of the Games left.

The Global Poker Index (GPI) has just received its last update of the week, on July 29th. In general, the ranking has undergone a few changes, particularly in its Top 10, while the rest of the classification has known some modifications with players who enter in the Top 300 and others who go out. This week, Jason Mercier, and his 3,235.74 points, keeps the head of the ranking, with 40 points more than those of Philipp Gruissem (3,194.41). Marvin Rettenmaier, Ole Schemion and Joseph Cheong conclude the Top 5. At the 6th place, we find Daniel Negreanu, followed by Michael Watson. Igor Kurganov rises in the Top 10 by collecting 3 places.

After the Day 11 during which 40 poker players took part, the Main Event of the Season 5’s last step of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT), which is currently taking place in Queenstown, linked up on Wednesday with the Day 1B. During this second entry day, 30 players joined the tables of Sky City’s poker room. But at the end of the day, there were only 22 players left, after five levels of game. Daniel Laidlaw is at the top of the chipcount with a stack of 85,900 chips. Laidlaw established most of his chips on the elimination de Daniel Mayoh.

The Main Event of the Australia New Zeland Poker Tour started on Tuesday, in the poker room of SkyCity casino in QueensTown, in New Zealand. Sixth and last step of the Season 5, the ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest gathered 40 players for its Day 1A, an event at €1,800 of buy-in. But after six hours of game, 26 players survived with Michael Chon as chipleader, who counted 59,375 chips. Among the players who joined the tables at the beginning of the day, we could find known figures of the Australian poker, following the example of Oliver Gill, Jesse McKenzie, Matt Wakeman, Ben Gilholme, Tom Grigg, Ben Richardson, Stevan Chew, Tim English, Liam O'Rourke or Hugh Cohen.

As already announced, the Season XII of the World Poker Tour will start in next August 16th, during the WPT Cyprus. This inaugurating step of the new season will take place at Merit Crystal Cove casino. For this Season XII, the organizers have brought novelties for the greatest benefit of spectators. In fact, the circuit will benefit from five televised events and the first will be the one of Los Angeles at Bicycle Casino Bell Gardens. The WPT Legends of Poker will be the first to be broadcasted, with its Main Event which, since its launch in 2002, gathered legends of poker. Among the winners of this inescapable step of the World Poker Tour circuit, we find the living legend of poker, Doyle Brunson, and also Dan Harrington, Andy Frankenberger and Will Failla. The WPT Legends of Poker will be held from August 29th to September 4th, whose Main Event will be accessible for a buy-in of $3,700.

The Sky Poker Tour is a poker tournament which meets a great success in England. Since the beginning of the year, four steps were held and the latest is the Sky Poker Tour Nottingham. This event took place during the last weekend at the Dusk Till Dawn Casino of Nottingham. 246 players have paid the buy-in of £220, to take part in the Main Event. After the Day 1, the field was reduced to 43 players with James Rann as chipleader. During the second day, 33 out of the 43 survivors of the first day were in the money, but the competition continued until the six-handed final table was defined. The bubble boy of the ITM was Stephen “Jenners” Jennison, following his elimination at the 34th place.

After the victory at the Main Event of the Mini IPT Sanremo of last week, the poker festival at Casino di Sanremo continued with the Italian Poker Tour (ITP). This second step of the IPT 2013 was marked by the participation of 245 players, among which there were 64 during the Day 1A and 181 at the Day 1B. All these people paid a buy-in of €2,200, which generated a prizepool of €477,240. This main event reached its final table after four days of competition, in which eliminations followed one after one to reduce the field at 8 players. 33 players took the star of the Day 3, as for stake for those who manage to play poker well, the 24 places paid with minimum of €5,600, but mainly with qualification for the final table. Notable players such as Carla Solinas or Jackson Genovesi finished outside the ITM. Yuriy Nesterenko was the bubble boy, after he was eliminated at the 25th place.

Since a few years, Australia has become a reference destination for amateurs and professionals of poker. Within a year, the country hosts several major tournaments, following the example of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour or the Aussie Millions. Last weekend, the State of Tasmania received the Tasmanian Poker Championships in the poker room of Wrest Point Casino of Hobart. With its re-entry format, the Main Event at $290 of this edition 2013 of the TPC recorded 92 registrations, which generated a prizepool of $23,000. Among the notable players who took the start of this event, in the poker room of the Wrest Point Casino, we could find Will “Willy Lowball” Jones, Fflur Higgs, Amon Mustchin Toby “Mr Bellagio” Meredith, Zijie Zhao, Mads Neilson or David Bowen.

The final table of the Eureka Poker Tour was held as planned on Sunday, with the eight survivors of the previous days: Liran Machluf, Stefan Ivanov, Tane Tanevski, Georgios Phiniotis, Alexander Moiseev, Papantoniou Stylianos, Ivo Donev and Michal Vojtisek. The final table guaranteed a minimum gain of €9,200. This sum went to the local player Ivo Donev, who was eliminated by Tane Tanevski, at the 8th place of this poker tournament. The two last Cypriots of the tournament were eliminated just after. Georgios Phiniotis and Papantoniou Stylianos have pocketed respectively €12,160 and €16,180. The elimination continued with the one of Stefan Ivanov, who was rewarded with €22,750 for his 5th place. As he failed at one place from the podium, Michal Vojtisek consoled himself with €29,800.
