Marvin Rettenmaier: Again in the 2nd place of the GPI
The Global Poker Index (GPI) groups the 300 best players of live poker tournament in the world. For its last update of August 21st, the GPI knew a big change, as well in the Top 10 as in the rest of the ranking. Jason Mercier remains the indisputable leader of the classification, while Marvin Rettenmaier seized the second place, previously occupied by Joseph Cheong. The later was relegated to the 3rd place, just before Michael Watson and Ole Schemion for the Top 5. Occupying the 6th position during last week, Marvin Rettenmaier won four precious places, following his remarkable performance in Cyprus, the inaugural step of the Season XII of the World Poker Tour. In fact, the German has just won the High Roller tournament at $10,000 of this poker event and adds $182,000 to his bankroll.
Philipp Gruissem occupies the 6th place of the ranking, after he won one place. Daniel Negreanu lost four places this week and is in the 7th position of the GPI, before Stephen O'Dwyer, Bertrand Grospellier and Igor Kurganov who concludes the Top 10. Among players who progressed this week, we find the recent runner-up of the WPT Cyprus High Roller, Roger Hairabedian (29th, +19), Vladimir Troyanovskiy (79th, +56), Benjamin Pollak (137th, +24) or Samantha Cohen (182th, +29). The week begins badly for Dan Smith (27th), who lost eleven places, and also for Erik Seidel (63rd, -17), Mike McDonald (66t, -17), Kevin MacPhee (77th, -14), John Juanda (121st, -34) or Emanuel Failla (126th, -13).
