Macau Poker Cup: Tom Alner wins the Red Dragon
The poker room of City of Dreams, in Macao, was since last week the host of one of the most select poker tournaments in Pacific-Asia. The Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon registered 645 incomers, but after three days of hard competition, only nine players reached the final table. This last day of the Main Event of Macau Poker Cup gathered Victor Sheerman, Tom Alner, Frank Maley, Jason Chong, Thomas Ward, Wilson Fu, Joao de Castro, Shinichi Takenouchi and Brian Yip, chipleader with a stack of 2,065,000.
The day started with the elimination of Shinichi Takenouchi after one hour of game. Five minutes after, Joao Pedro de Castro felt at his turn. The two players pocketed HK$126,578 and HK$158,000 for their 9th and 8th place. The elimination continued with the one of Frank Maley, who led the six remaining players to take a little break of 10 minutes. It was necessary to wait one hour and half before that the next player left the table: Brian Yip. After the elimination of Thomas Ward at the 5th place, a deal was concluded between Jason Cheong, Victor Sheerman, Wilson Fu and Tom Alner. Victor Sheerman was the first out of the four to leave the final, but the deal enabled him to pocket HK$853,000, followed by Wilson Fu (3rd, HK$827,000). Tom Alner began the heads-up with 7,900,000 chips against 1,600,000 for Jason Chong. Tom Alner won the Macau Poker Cup Red Dragon and pocketed HK$823,000. Jason Chong won HK$758,000 for his place of runner-up.
