APPT Sydney 2013: Coronation of Daniel Laidlaw at the Main Event
The edition 2013 of the APPT Sydney Poker Championships has been taking place since last week, at the poker room of Star Sydney Casino & Hotel, in Australia. For its buy-in of $3,000, 88 poker players have been registered during the Day 1A, in which 41 players survived. These survivors of the Day 1A were joined by the 61survivors of the Day 1B, on a field of 139 players. 102 players started the Day 3 and the competition continued until there were only 11 players on the table. The final table was established when Phi Yuu and Sailendra Sa were eliminated. Aaron Benton was the chipleader at the beginning of the final table, with 1,050,000 chips. The runner-up of the Main Event of the APPT Queenstown, Daniel Laidlaw, was also among the 9 finalists, alongside Brad Fowle, Kwong Phung, Michael Kanaan, Michael Weiss, Robert Spano, Michael Doodson and Tony Kambouroglou.
The final table guaranteed a minimum gain of $15,980$, which went to Michael Weiss, the first player eliminated of the day. At his turn, Robert Spano fell in the 8th place; followed a little time after by Michael Doodson, Brad Fowler, Kwong Phung and Aaron Benton. The three remaining players, namely Michael Kanaan, Tony Kambouroglou and Daniel Laidlaw have done a deal which has allowed the winner to pocket more than $120,000. Daniel Laidlaw got the upper hand in front of his two opponents and granted himself with the title and the gain of $165,256. Tony Kambouroglou has finished second and was rewarded with $104,875, while Michael Kanaan contented himself with $59,110 for his 3rd place.
