Two separate verdicts to possibly reshape EU online poker legislation - Online poker
Online poker industry in Europe is likely to encounter a possible change in the next couple of months with the outcome of the two rulings from the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg (CJEU) and the Royal Court of Justice in London (RCJ). Both verdicts could have a significant impact on European online poker law. The first case concerns the Royal Scandinavian Casino in Aarhus, Denmark, and the European Commission. According to the gaming facility, Danmark-based online poker providers are charged lower tax rates compared to those charged to land-based casinos; the Royal Scandinavian Casino argued the fact is contrary to Article 87 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).

RAWA puts online poker under threat - USA
In recent years, Sheldon Adelson has campaigned for online poker prohibition in the United States. The billionaire and owner of several land-based casinos has been exercising lobbying against online gambling, and his target might be reached by December at the "lame duck legislative session." Indeed, the bill "Restoration of America's Wire Act" (RAWA) submitted by South Carolina Senator, Lindsey Graham and Utah Representative Jason Chaffetz, will be debated in Congress on November 9 to 26, 2014, and would be passed to the Committee on the Judiciary for consideration. It is likely that RAWA would be approved by the Congress towards which billionaire Sheldon Adelson has a massive influence. Many of them are said to be financially supported by Adelson during their respective election campaigns, and in return, the Congressmen would have the proposed legislation passed.

In recent months, it has become a conflict between Russia and the West, the result of which appears to slow down the process on online poker legalization in the country. Worse, the Ukraine crisis is gaining momentum as the Western countries intervene. Europe and the United States have imposed multiple sanctions to Russia.
