Alexander Lakhov wins the $ 310,000 top prize of the WPT Cyprus 2014

The second stage of the season XIII World Poker Tour (WPT) wrapped up with the victory of Alexander Lakhov. The WPT Merit Classic North Cyprus has attracted 375 players, but only six of them returned to the poker room of Merit Crystal Cove Casino. The final table of six included Alexander Lakhov, Toby Lewis, Dmitry Gromov, Igor Devkin, Nicolas Chouity and Ori Miller. Russian professional poker player Igor Devkin was the first to head to exit. For his sixth place, he earned $ 62,000. Entering the final table as the short stack (with 435,000 chips), Devkin did his best but unable to resist a little longer. Israel’s Ori Miller fell to fifth place for $ 77,000. He was followed soon afterwards by England’sToby Lewis (4th, $ 102,820).

As for Nicolas Chouity, he led the final table in chip counts. However, he was sent to the rail for $ 140,000, paving the way for Dmitry Gromov and Alexander Lakhov to compete in the $ 310,000 first-place prize race. Gromov entered the heads-up play with a 3 to 1chip advantage, 9,040,000 chips against 3,085,000 for Lakhov. Surprisingly, Lakhov stunned his opponent in level 30, bringing his stack up to 7.07 million while Gromov had 5.05 million in hand. Alexander Lakhov maintained the lead until the final hand to claim the title. In addition to the $ 310,000 prize, Lakhov was awarded a $ 15,400 ticket for the WPT World Championship. This event is scheduled in April 2015 at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, in Atlantic City.
