Poker Robbers Sentenced in Ohio
The two Columbus, Ohio youth accused of holding up a poker game in late October reversed their pleas this past week to those of guilty. Both were subsequently sentenced to six-year imprisonment by two separate judges. The actual perpetrator of the robbery was Carlos D. Ross Jr., who entered the Summit Station Lions Club wielding a semi-automatic pistol, and held up the 20 poker players in attendance. Ross made off with $3,000 in cash and then jumped into a car driven by accomplice Max A. McGuffin. Aside from providing the getaway car, McGuffin also provided the weapon. Some men from the Lions Club chased after the two and were soon joined by police. After crashing the car into a tree, McGuffin and Ross tried running but were soon apprehended by officers of the law. McGuffin, the apparent mastermind of the scheme, had allegedly attended Summit Station Lions Club poker games regularly, as a way to scope out the robbery's locale.
