Student Wins £5,000 and WSOP Seat at Major British Poker Tournament
Simon Pettet, a math student at the U.K.'s Chester University, was recently crowned VC 2006 King of Poker at London's Cafe de Paris. Although several celebrities, including Atomic Kitten's Liz McClarnon and Rebecca Loos, attended the event, the 21-year-old managed to remain focused on the poker action. Pettet started playing online poker just over a year ago. After awhile, he joined his campus' poker circle and started organizing games with his friends. The VC tournament was his first major poker competition.

Woman Poker Addict Gets 4-year Sentence for Poisoning Her Husband
A woman was recently found guilty of poisoning her husband and stealing his money to gamble on poker machines. Rosalina Victoria Carter, a 48-year-old Mackay resident, was indicted on charges of malicious acts and fraud. The Mackay District Court found Carter guilty, and sentenced her to three years and nine months in prison. Judge Michael Shanahan decided that Carter's sentence was to be suspended after 15 months.

That is how Curtis McClain, a South Bronx resident, won $250,000 at the New York Post Poker Scratch N' Win game. That day, the Post brought good news for McClain. The poker game's winning five aces helped him make it to the headlines.

University Professors Ban Laptops After Online Poker Finds Way into Classrooms
A number of universities in the U.S. have taken steps to ban laptops in lecture halls after finding that, instead of diligently taking notes, several students have been using them to play poker online. So far, the move to keep laptops from the classroom has been made by individual lecturers only, with entire institutions yet to adopt policies against laptops.
