John Payne introduced a new online poker bill - Pennsylvania
In recent months, the State of Pennsylvania has been trying to find a way via a gambling-related bill to have a regulated online poker market, and eventually, an interstate igaming acitivity. The latest proposal is dated last Wednesday with John Payne, member of Pennsylvania House of Representatives, introducing the House Bill 649. Though no details of the said bill are released online, a portion of Pennsylvanias poker community thought that it shares close similarities with the past attempts that are currently under discussion in other states. Listed on this bill is a 14% tax, along with $ 5 million of license fee on online poker license applicants and all other igaming operators willing to expore Pennsylvanias gaming hub.
Given the fact that John Payne is the House Gaming Oversight Committee chairman, his bill is likely to be passed by Parliament. Interestingly, this new ipoker draft law will help curb the illegal gaming market that actually attracts millions of American gamblers( Pennsylvanians included) and better enforce customer protection. According to optimistic estimations, online gaming industry will fill Pennsylvanias coffers with $ 300 million annually. That being said, the state is adopting a much realistic estimation as opposed to the mountain-like $ 1 billion of igaming revenue estimated by Governor Chris Christie in New Jersey. In fact, none of the three US states with regulated poker market has hit their respective revenue expectations. Speaking of New Jersey, local igaming industry only added less than $ 130 million in year.
