To be launched under the Global Poker Index systems - WSOP Player of the Year
A key milestone! The World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Alexandre Dreyfus-owned Global Poker Index (GPI) have recently joined hands for a new partnership. With this freshly-signed agreement, the WSOP Player of the Year ranking is now established and will be under the current GPI systems until 2018. The eventual winner of this ranking edition will be awarded a trophy during a ceremony held in conjunction with the WSOPs Ultimate Battle, the November Nine. His/her name will also be permanently displayed on the animated walls of Rio All Suite. The said agreement also gave birth to a totally new poker tournament called GPI WSOP Player Party. It will take place in Las Vegas in early July. Paralleling this, the Global Poker Index will regularly publish information about players stats on various poker platforms, including the WSOP.com. The GPI will also ensure streaming broadcast of the series final tables.
May we remind you that this partnership has emerged thanks to the strong commitment of both parties to optimizing the notoriety of the WSOP Player of The Year. It comes a no surprise since the same objective is part of GPIs head Alexandre Dreyfus to sportify the game of poker. Recall that the WSOP Player of the Year ranking will be based on the results of both the WSOP Las Vegas and the WSOP Europe held in Berlin. After all, we must await the verdict of the ongoing WSOP Berlin to know the successor of the current WSOP POY title holder, George Danzer.
