France's Jean Montury claimed the win - EPT Malta Main Event
The first-ever European Poker Tour Malta (EPT) would be a truly memorable event for France-based poker community. In fact, the 1st and 2nd place finishes in this festival are all grabbed by French poker players. Jean Montury won the poker tournament by crushing his compatriot Valentin Messina in the final showdown. Both players entered the final table with considerable chip lead over the other final-tablists. Reigning PokerStars Caribbean Adventure champion Dominik Panka fall to 3rd place for 347,000. He was heading to the exit few hands after the elimination of Stefan Schillhabel (4th, 260,500), Javier Gomez Zapatero (5th, 205,300) and Hossein Ensan (6th, 153,700).
John Monturys first big win is dated back in 2012 when he emerged victorious of the BPT Deauville Main Event. Last January, he finished 4th place at the FPS Deauville High Roller event, a pretty modest feat that allowed him to cash 57,000 of prize. By clinching victory at the 2015 EPT Malta, Monturys has just entered the close circle of Frances biggest cash grabbers. The face-to-face clash between Jean Montury and Valentin Messina lasted nearly five hours. Initially, the eventual winner was guaranteed to pocket 810,400 while the runner-up would be awarded 492,000. Both men subsequently decided to agree on a deal, seeing Valentin Messina heading home with 615,000 of prize, and Jean Montury with the after-deal 1st-place prize of 687,000.
