Meskwaki Casino has been abuzz since last Saturday with the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) carnival. This poker tournament has attracted 371 entrants, all Day 1A and Day 1B combined. However, only 73 would make it through Day 2 battle. 36 of the 175 entrants came out stronger after 14 levels of play on Day 1A. Rob Wazwaz leads the pack with an impressive stack of 244,000 chips. As a reminder, this regular MSPT participant finished 4th-place at the MSPT Ho-Chunk event in 2013. It was his biggest career achievement. Those heading to the next phase include notables armed with over 150,000 chips, namely Nicholas Aranda (207,000), Steve Vang (189,000), Matt Kirby (176,000) and Kevin Suneson (171,000).
As for Day 1B, 196 players participated in the Main Event race. Mario Hudson wrapped up the day with 380,500 chips. Of course, he is leading the whole survivors to Day 2. Joe Matheson (282,000) and Thao Thiem (246,000) are the two other well-positioned players heading to the next flight. Day 1Bs end also saw a number of high-profile poker players qualified for the next battle; include the likes of Dan Sun, Ben Wiora, Mark Hodge, Mike Ross, Ryan Hohenstein and Josh Reichard. Unlike the latter, notable names Todd Breyfogle, Jon Hanner, Kou Vang, Allen Kessler, David Gonia, Mike Lang, Everett Carlton, Shawn Roberts, Matt Alexander and Nick Pupillo are part of those who found their own runs cut when Day 1B concluded. Todd Breyfogle, Nick Pupillo and Mike Lang were among the participants who had taken adavantage of the re-entry formula following their early elimination on the previous day. Despite their tremendous efforts, they ended up unsuccessful.
