Team Italy emerged victorious - Global Poker Masters World Cup
Team Italy set the worlds poker community alight by winning the first-ever Poker World Cup. At this poker tournament,Team Italy was represented by Andrea Dato, Mustapha Kanit, Dario Sammartino, Giuliano Bendinelli and Rocco Palumbo. Facing Andrea Dato and Co at the final showdown was Team Russia composed of Alex Bilokur, Anatoly Filatov, Vladimir Troyanovskiy, Vitaly Lunkin and Ivan Soshnikov. As a reminder, 8 nations participate in this Global Poker Masters race (Russia, Italy, USA, France, Canada, Germany, Ukraine, United Kingdom). The UK was the first team to find themselves jammed at the end of the first day battle. Team USAs run was cut when the second day flight arose, leaving the quarter-final race to the six remaining nations. With three heads-up plays on the menu, the day saw Team France struggling the hardest. The semi-final was dominated by Team USA on the leaderboard with 118,000 chips, followed by Team Russia (111,000 chips), Germany (101,000), Ukraine (84,000), Italy (79,000) and Canada (60,000).
The Six-Max Semis saw Team Russia grabbing the chip lead after nine hands. Facing USA, Ukraine was sent to the rail to definitely quit the Semis race. Then Canada would fall thereafter facing the same Dan Smiths team. Germany was the next, followed by the United States. Finishing 3rd place, Team USAs elimination somewhat allowed the Italian team to thicken their chip lead heading to the ultimate clash. Armed with 404,900 chips, Italy met Russia (148,100) in the heads-up. After five heads-up matches, Team Italy maintained its lead and eventually won the "Global Poker Masters" World Cup.
