Poker SA 2015 $1,100 buy-in Platinum Event: Patrick Whelan secured the win
The first Platinum Event of the Poker SA 2015 has just concluded with Patrick Whelan crushing a tough 80-player field to seal the win. The event was held last weekend in the freshly reshaped poker room of The Maryland Hotel in Adelaide (Australia). Accessible for a buy-in of $ 1,100, the first edition of the Platinum Event 2015 hit the largest attendace rates in the history of Poker SA. Actually, 72 players joined the event, plus 8 re-entries. This 80-player field generates an enticing prize pool of $ 80,000. The 80-player field attracts a number of notable poker players, including Jonathan Karamalikis and Xuan Liu, neither would make it through the final table.
Though he did not make the money, Karamalikis coloured the first edition of the 2015 Poker SA $ 1,000 Platinum Event with a gracious gesture: he offered the final nine a pair of his new "Big Stack Underwear" product. Richard Gregory was the bubble boy of the event. By falling to 10th place, not only did he go home empty-handed but also he walked away without a pair of Big Stack Underwear. Andrew Dales finished 9th place for $ 2,400. A few hands later, Huy Pham (8th, $ 3,200), Marwan O (7th, $ 4,000), Angus Monfries (6th, $ 4,800), Chris Parker (5th, $ 6,400) and Matt Justice (4th, $ 8,800) headed to exit. The remaining cashes were shared as follows: $ 24,000 for the winner, $ 15,200 for the second-place finisher, $ 11,200 for the 3rd. Graeme Nobbs eventually fell to 3rd place while Patrick "The Magician" Whelan beat Sandro Depasquale in the heads-up to win the top prize.
