40 players from 8 different countries will compete in Malta - Global Poker Masters 2015
While we are still far from seeing the game of poker as one of the competitive disciplines in the Olympic Games, the sportify project initiated by Global Poker Index (GPI) is marching straight forward as evidenced by the upcoming Global Poker Masters. From March 21 to 22, 2015, the best poker players in the world will gather in Malta for a team battle. Implicitly inspired from the Ryder Cup (golf) and the Davis Cup (tennis), the GPI is making a decisive first attempt by launching the Global Poker Masters, a poker-based competition which will be run alongside the 2015 European Poker Tour Malta. Of course, the event promises to be exceptional with the presence of notable names in live poker tournaments, especially those with high ranking on Global Poker Index. Eight countries will be represented in this competition. Each country has one team consisting of 5 players. For the moment, only four members of each team are known. Evidence is that each of the 8 competing countries will unveil their respective Wild Card later.
Team USA consists of Dan Smith, Daniel Colman, Pratyush Buddiga and Jacob Schindler. This squad will find itself facing formidable Team UK (Stephen Chidwick, Jack Salter, Simon Deadman, Oliver Price) , Team Germany (Ole Schemion, Marvin Rettenmaier, Martin Finger, George Danzer), Canada (Ami Barer, Sorel Mizzi, Mike McDonald, Andrew Chen), Russia (Anatoly Filatov, Vladimir Troyanovskiy Ivan Soshnikov, Vitaly Lunkin), France (Erwann Pecheux, Benjamin Pollak, Sylvain Loosli, Fabrice Soulier), Italy (Dario Sammartino, Mustapha Kanit, Andrea Dato, Giuliano Bendinelli) and Ukraine (Eugene Katchalov, Oleksandr Gnatenko, Artem Metalidi, Oleksii Khoroshenin).
