Matt Culberson hit the top prize - HPT Ameristar Casino St. Charles
Matt Culberson wrapped up the 20th stage of the Heartland Poker Tour 2014 (HPT) this week with a great win. After multiple stops across the USA, the Heartland Poker Tour 2014 played down the curtain-fall in Missouri. As expected, the Main Event was the most anticipated battle by players who made the trip to Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles. The $ 1,650 entry-fee poker tournament drew a massive field of 393 participants. With this high attendance rate, the prize pool jumped up to $ 538,115. Of the 393 entries, only nine managed to reach the final table after a few days of play in the Ameristar Casino poker room: Ron Amos, Matt Cannella, Matthew Mueller, Matt Culberson, Reginald Roberts, Joshua Turner, Carl Masters, Michael Ross and Jeffrey Brin.
Matthew Mueller was the first to find his own run cut among the finalists. His ninth place allowed him to pocket $ 12,915 of cash though. Carl Masters ($ 15,067) and Joshua Turner ($ 18,188) suffered the same fate soon afterwards. Two-time HPT winner Reginald Roberts fell to 6th place for $ 21,525. As for Matt Cannella O'Fallon, he finished fifth place for $ 27,444, followed by fourth-place finisher Ron Amos ($ 36,592) and Jeffrey Brin (3rd, $ 52,466). Then the scene was set for Matt Culberson Michael Ross to battle out the heads-up. Matt entered the clash with 4-to-1 chip advantage, keeping Michael Ross away from gaining control of the game. The latter eventually fell to second place. While Ross was awarded $ 78,350 of consolation, first-place finisher Matt Culberson grabbed the title along with $ 129,147. The upcoming stage of the HPT will be held in Las Vegas from November 7 to 16 at Stratosphere Casino-Hotel & Tower.
