R. Dykhouse won the title over a massive 517-player field - Mid-States Poker Tour 2014
The Mid-States Poker Tour 2014 at FireKeepers, Battle Creek, saw Ryan Dykhouse as the winner after he knocked a massive field of 517 poker players out. At the end of the three-day flights, only 9 players of the 98 survivors on Day 2 battle would make it through the final table: Mark Johnson, Adam Friedman, Jeremy Ehrke, Nick Pupillo, Phung Ngo, Steve Anderson, Jim Dominique and Chad Bienz, all in the hunt for the highly coveted title. Notable names who failed to reach the final table included Patrick Steele, Michael Ross, Dash Dudley and Jean Gaspard. Unlucky as they were, Chad Bienz, shortly followed by Jim Dominique, were the first players to see their runs cut. For his ninth place, Bienz collected $ 10,000 whilst Dominique was awarded a check of $ 14,250.
Then Steve Anderson joined them afterwards. His 7th place finish allowed him to pocket $ 18,250 though. After some unsuccessful hands, Phung Ngo (6th place) and Nick Pupillo (5th place) headed for the door. The two men stepped out of the FireKeepers Casino poker room with respectively $ 23,000 and $ 28,000. Despite an impressive chip advantage at the beginning of the final table, chip leader-of-the-day Jermy Ehrke finished 4th place for a gain of $ 35,700. As Adam Friedman fell to 3rd place ($ 45,000), the scene was set for an exciting clash between Ryan Dykhouse and Mark Johnson. Armed with a 2-to-1 chip advantage over Johnson, Dykhouse maintained the lead until the final hand to cash the $ 124,500 first-place prize. As a consolation, runner-up Mark Johnson earned $ 70,000. The next stop of the 2014 MSPT event will take place from November 1st to 9 at Meskwaki Casino, Iowa.
