Online poker market slumped to 20% - Denmark
In recent years, Denmark has been a paradise for online poker enthusiasts. The key to the success of the Danish online gambling market is owed to a less restrictive system (law) compared to those of other countries in the European Union, including Italy and the United Kingdom, where e-gaming market is legalized. However things have changed these days as Danemarks online poker market is experiencing a rather alarming shift. Indeed, the industry has just suffered from its second consecutive year decline as the Danish gambling authority Spillemyndigheden (National Gaming Authority of Denmark, the equivalent of Frances ARJEL) reported. The e-poker market in Denmark now shows a 20% decline in revenue for the second quarter of 2014. Compared to the same period last year, the figures go down from $ 8.98 million to $ 7.18 million.
Note that in 2012, revenues coming from Danishs online poker were valued at $ 9.88 million. Based on these figures for Q2 2014, the Spillemyndigheden forsees $ 32,340,000 of revenues by the end of the year; The new figure would entail a 7.7% decrease compared to the one in 2013, and 18.2% decrease in comparison with that of 2012. Unlike poker, the Danish casino games and sports betting online market shows an encouraging sign of hope over this period. Actually casino gambling revenues rose by 12.5% to $ 48,507,060 this years Q2 against $ 43,117,387 in 2013. Sports betting recorded a remarkable increase of 33% thanks to the influence of the Brazils World Cup. Accordingly the Danish betting market generates revenues amounted to $ 79.94 million compared to the $ 60.18 million of the year 2013.
