Portugal hold USA to a 2-2 draw, Germany secures its second place - World Cup 2014
Six days after their humiliating defeat against Germany (0-4) in Salvador de Bahia, Portugal finishes a tied game against the USA and finds now a little chance to qualify for the final 8. Second place, USA, for their part, has to wait until the last day of the first round to know their fate since Portugal snatched a 2-2 draw against them in extra time (90+5). In fact, Portugal opened the scoring with Nanis goal in 5 minutes of play. But USA team seemed to march on the right path to the final 8 qualification by leading 2-1 in regular time thanks to Jermaine Jones (64th) and Clint Dempsey (81th) goals. And fortunately thanks to Varela, Portugal came up by putting an end to that USA dream by adding another goal in the very last action of the extension.
Despite all this, this draw is just a reprieve for Portugal. The fate of this team now hangs by a thin thread because a miracle is expected for Cristiano Ronaldo and Co to stand ahead in the next round. Though Portugal deprived USA from a straight qualification, only a scoreless draw against Germany will levy Dempseys team to qualify for the 16th round. For their part, Ghana also holds Germany to a 2-2 tie to the great delight of sports betting fans. CR7 and teammates imperatively has to stand up and win over Ghana, and look forward to securing second place in Group G. As a reminder, both Germany and USA have 4 points each, with two victories in their respective board. Portugal and Ghana share the same figure, 1 point, with one draw and one defeat. Bets are now available on online sports betting sites, a sweet warning to football enthusiasts who want to wager on the next game of Portugal. After all, the world cup is not yet finished for this team whose performance has long amazed more and more fans.
