New York: A new draft law on online poker to be adopted
The legal online gambling market in the State of New York will not be operational this year. But New York lawmakers seem to work actively on it so that gambling services will be available as soon as possible for bettors. After the introduction of an online poker Bill in the Senate of New York by the Republican Senator John Bonacic, another draft law on the same matter has just been introduced to the Assembly by Vernons Deputy J.Gary Pretlow. In fact, that Bill is similar to that introduced to the Senate. The said Bill authorizes New York Gaming Commission to distribute licenses to gambling operators wishing to operate variants of poker services that require certain level of skills like Omaha and Texas Holdem. In addition, that Bill which focuses on online poker game should also allow regulatory administration to subsequently provide a legal market within the State where online illegal games still hold a prominent place.
According to the draft law, gambling operators are asked to take adequate measures to protect players, fight against gambling addiction and restrict accessibility to online gambling sites by minors. As a result, 10 operating licenses issuing a 10 year-permits will be distributed for a $ 10 billion. Besides, a 15 % tax will be levied on gross gaming revenues. Unfortunately after December 21, 2006 Bill, gambling giants operating on poker game market in the US, like PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker are still not eligible to get licenses in the state of New York. Interestingly enough, the so-called draft law authorizes interstate agreements, that is, sharing cash with other regulated market.
