Macau: The Eldorado of high stakes poker
Since a few years, Las Vegas has been conceding its place of ideal poker destination in Macau in terms of high stakes rounds. This new Eldorado of high stakes poker, located on the other side of the Pacific, seduces professional players with its blinds which may reach US$7,000/14,000. Macau has become the Mecca of high stakes pokers in which a lot of professional players intend to have a stop, at least once in their career. Tom « durrrr » Dwan, Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius and John Juanda are among the great names of poker who have already participated in a round of no-limit holdem HKD10, 000 /20,000 of the Big Game. In this kind of rounds, millions of dollars under the shape of chips, or rather plates, pass from a hand to another one, and a pot at more than HK$20 million is common.
The poker room of the casino Starworld, Poker King Club, is the host of these events since three years. The Starworld is very discreet about the details concerning the Big Game. But on Saturday March 1st of this year, some information was published by Tom Hall, an icon in the industry of online gambling and poker in Asia, on the American forum 2+2. A round in which two professional players took part, including Tom Dwan and local players, was held since 2 days, with blinds at $12,500/$25,000. On the forum, Tom Hall admits that he has seen a pot at HKD40, 000, 000 ($5.1M) and winning bluffs on bets in the river of $700/800,000.
