Global Poker Index: Mike McDonald reaches the 1st place of Player of The Year
Thanks to his multiple achievements in the Aussie Millions 2014, Mike McDonald has won temporarily the first place of the ranking Global Poker Index (GPI) Player of The Year. As a reminder, this Canadian poker player has registered in his prizelist a second place in the tournament Aussie Millions Challenge at $100,000 and a third place in the LK Boutique $250,000 Challenge. With his second place in the main event of the Pokerstars Caribbean Adventure, McDonald has thus embellished his bankroll with an amount of $4.3 million during these first months of the year 2014. Thus, Dominik Panka has lost the place of honor at the end of one week only. He is in the second position, followed by Dan Smith. Vanessa Selbst has finally left the podium.
We have to say that this great poker tournament of the southern hemisphere has allowed numerous players improving their position in this classification. Among them, there are Jason Mercier, Liv Boeree, Fabian Quoss and Ami Barer. They have integrated the top 10 and occupy respectively the 6th, 8th, 9th and 10th place. Ami Barer is the one who has realized an outstanding progress, thanks to his victory in the Main Event of the Aussie Millions, because he has won 308 places. Concerning the GPI 300 ranking, its Daniel Negreanu who wins the title of leader with 4093, 60 points. He has dethroned Ole Schemion, thanks to his two places in final of the tournaments Challenge $100,000 and Challenge $250,000. Marvin Rettenmaier completes the top 3 of the classification. A few players have made their entrance in the ranking, thanks to their good results in the Crown Melbourne, following the image of Isaac Haxton and Phil Ivey.
