Borgata Winter Poker Open: Cancellation of the Event #1 because of a cheating
Its a first one in the field of live poker tournament, an event has been cancelled and the prizepool has been frozen. The reason of such extraordinary decision is the report of a cheating during the inaugural event of the Borgata Winter Poker Open. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa of Atlantic City, in the United States, received from Tuesday January 14th of this year a new edition of its poker tournament Borgata Winter Poker Open, within the framework of the reception of the World Poker Tour. The day was marked by the holding of the Event #1, a re-entry tournament with a buy-in of $560, which has registered 4,814 registrations. This impressive field has generated a prizepool of $2,325, 835. But unfortunately, the winner will be never known because the organizers have decided to suspend the event because of the introduction of counterfeit chips inside the tournament.
The poker event was held without incident till the Day 2. 27 players have survived at the end of the day and the 423 other players of the paid place came to the cashier of the casino to take their gain, with a minimum of $1,082. The Day 3 didnt take place, the tournament was cancelled and the prizepool frozen, for an internal investigation with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. According to a senior official of the establishment, the integrity of the tournament could be compromised. The investigation is in progress and the prizepool will be certainly shared once this one would have been resolved. As a reminder, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa will be the host of the first step of the second half of the Season XII of the World Poker Tour, from Sunday January 26th 2014.
