WPT Season XII: Atlantic City will host the World Championship
Since the launching of the poker tournament World Poker Tour, the Bellagio of Las Vegas has always been the host of the Grande finale of the season: the World Championship. After 11 seasons, the World Championship leaves Nevada for the first time, for New Jersey; another State of the USA which put poker to its fair value since many years. In fact, the Bellagio of Las Vegas will give place to the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, for the reception of the final step of the season 12 of the World Poker Tour. This event will be held in May 2014. The reason of this change is the fall of attendance since a few years. The Season XI of the WPT World Championship of Las Vegas, won by Chino Rheem, seduced only 146 players; while they were 639 players who took part in 2007, an event which was won by Carlos Mortensen.
As a reminder, the first season (2003) was won by Alan Goehring, on a field of 111 players. Among the winners of the WPT World Championship throughout these 11 seasons, we find the n°1 of the GPI 300 classification Marvin Rettenmaier, Scott Seiver, David Williams, Yevgeniy Timoshenko or David Chiu. This change was of course necessary to give back to the World Championship its fame of former days. The president of the World Poker Tour, Adam Pliska, admits to be confident about this initiative, given that the Borgata benefits from an increasing reputation in the world of live poker in the United States. Thanks to this fame, Borgata is currently the host of four of the five major events of the WPT, has underlined M. Pliska.
