GPI: Jason Mercier invincible, Steven Silverman rises in the Top 20
Each week, the Global Poker Index (GPI) brings an update in its classification of the 300 best players of poker in the world. Already since several weeks, Jason Mercier dominated the ranking, after he finished in the money after the inaugural step of the WPT Alpha8, which was held this week in the poker room of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino of Hollywood (Florida). The American was eliminated at the 8th place and left the table with a gain of $232,700. This week, Marvin Rettenmaier remains at the second place of the GPI, just before Joseph Cheong and Michael Watson, who also kept the 3rd and 4th place a week ago. Philipp Gruissem (5th) and Daniel Negreanu (6th) won also respectively one place, which thus relegates Ole Schemion in the 7th position. Igor Kurganov wins the 8th place and puts Stephen O'Dwyer and Bertrand Grospellier in the two last places of the Top 10.
The winner of the WPT Alpha8 of Florida, Steven Silverman, rises in the Top 20. This week, he won 15 places and occupies the 13rd place of the GPI, while Justin Cuong Van Tran won 63 places. JC Tran occupied the 228th place of the classification before this poker tournament and his place of runner-up at the WPT Alpha8 Florida allowed him to collect 63 places, to finish at the 165th place of the GPI of this week. From his part, Justin Bonomo, on the eve of his second place at the Seminole Hard Rock Open, has decreased of two places (19th). Bonomo should win some places during the next update of the Global Poker Index.
