New Jersey: Imminent closure of the license application
It is still difficult to guess what future will have the market of online gaming of New Jersey and Nevada, the two American States having finished the procedures of legalization. It is here, especially about online poker. A priori, the market of New Jersey may be more attractive than the one of its counterpart, given the fact that the State is just near New York and Philadelphia, which counts respectively 8.5 and 1.5 million of inhabitants. In addition, the regulators, the legislators, the members of the industry of casino and the analysts of Wall Street consider that online gaming is able to generate an income of $ 1.2 billion during the first year for the State of New Jersey, or 40% of the revenues collected near the 12 casinos of Atlantic City in 2012. Note that the State of New Jersey has developed a very tight schedule and the regulatory Commission wants to start the activities about the end of the year.
Thus, the operators should have finalized their agreements with the technological partners, before June 30th. Those who could not manage to accomplish the required steps within the compulsory deadline will be shelved until next year. For the moment, two partnerships are obvious, namely the one of Caesars Entertainment Corp and the one of 888 Holding of Gibraltar and the one of Boyd Gaming Corp and Bwin.party. The doubt settles down, concerning the future of the leader of online poker, Pokerstars, on the American market. If the group does not find partners in New Jersey, it should forget its idea to accede on this first legal market of the USA.
