French online game: New measures to better supervise it
On Tuesday, the French Minister of the Budget, Bernard Cazeneuve and the Minister of Sports Valérie Fourneyron, visited the hospital Marmottan (Paris 17th), an establishment which is specializing in the treatment of addictions. M. Cazeneuve announced that the government will make vote near the parliament, four measures to protect the players within the frame of fight against gambling addiction, including online poker. Since ten years, the establishment has been treating numerous cases of addiction to poker and other online gaming, apart from the other kinds of addiction. According to the professor Marc Valleur, from the hospital Marmottan, the institution treated 3,267 clients throughout the year 2012, among which 166 cases were bound to the problems of gaming addictions. Certainly, the figure is less important than those of drug addiction; however, the situation worries the public authorities.
Following this visit to the hospital Marmottan, the French Minister of the Budget said in his speech, four measures to control more online gaming, including poker. Thus, Bernard Cazeneuve recommends the strengthening of the fight against illegal gaming sites and their excessive advertisements, the accession for the La Française des Jeux, to the files of the forbidden for gaming, which is currently grouping 35,000 names and whose accessibility is limited to casinos and operators of online gaming ; the consolidation about the protection of the players' earnings, in case of financial problem met by the operator ; and finally, the simplification of the interventions of the Commission des sanctions of the Arjel (French regulatory authority of online games). M. Cazeneuve precised that these measures will be part of the discussion about the bill concerning the consumption, to protect the players and better framework the online gaming practice.
