Online poker: Europe examines uniform safety standards
Online poker is a very lucrative industry in Europe to the point that the European Union is organizing a workshop to discuss European security standards of the online poker market. Representatives of the European Commission and the European Parliament surrounded by national regulators and other experts in online gaming gathered at the "Online Poker - Need for European Safety Standards? ", to determine if online poker needs safety standards by the European institutions to preserve the market. Certainly, member countries are best placed to regulate their online gaming market but the goal of the workshop is to find a solution to avoid the risk of market fragmentation in Europe.
Thus, Creutzmann advocates the standardization of safety standards at European level to ensure that gambling operators who want to operate in the member States of the European Union should comply with a dual licensing exam. According to the president of the German Association of Internet Industry and spokesperson of the European Association of Internet Service Providers, Michael Rotert, the establishment of safety standards involves the cooperation of all the main actors of the market. Money laundering was also discussed during the workshop. Rational Group Northern Europe manager, Sven Stiel, rejects this hypothesis because professional players are the only high rollers to use a large amount of money in online poker. Regarding illegal arrangements and bots, security measures have been put in place to prevent such practices.
