NBC Heads-Up: Gaëlle Baumann qualified for the next round, ElkY eliminated
The kickoff of the NBC Heads-Up Championship 2013 was given this Thursday, January 24 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas after the opening ceremony during which, the opponents draw for the first round was held. Most of guests were present at the invitation except Daniel Negreanu and Jennifer Harman. They were replaced by David Sands and Tom Marchese. Note that the competitors were divided into four groups with the names of Diamonds, Clubs, Spades and Hearts. And they seem to have offered high level duel to the public in the first round of this head's up poker tournament. Among the unlucky are Phil Laak eliminated by Phil Ivey, Jason Mercier ousted by Dan Smith, Mike Sexton who lost face to Phil Hellmuth, Tom Marchese dominated by Doyle Brunson and Michael Mizrachi eliminated by Mike Matusow.
On the French side, it should be noted the unfortunate defeat of Bertrand Grospellier against Justin Smith. However, Gaëlle Baumann is still in contention to continue to defend the honor of France. She managed to get rid of the famous poker player Liv Boeree. The next round will be tough for most competitors. The young French should among other face opponent like Dan Smith. The godfather of poker will encounter Tom Dwan. As for Phil Hellmuth, he will face the destroyer of Grospellier, Justin Smith. Other duels that could attract the attention of all are those between Viktor Blom and Matusow, Ivey and Justin Bonomo or Antonio Esfandiari and Jonathan Duhamel. Note that the coronation will take place towards the end of next weekend.
