GPI Player of The Year 2012: The title went to Dan Smith
At the end of one year rather prosperous, Dan Smith was finally awarded the title of GPI Player of The Year 2012. The verdict came last Tuesday, January 8. Marvin Rettenmaier was nevertheless in pole position in the last weeks of the year to win the trophy after winning the High Roller event of the European Poker Tour Prague (EPT), but Smith beat him a few points thanks to his victory at the side event of $ 5,000 buy-in of the same event. The privilege of being voted the best poker player in the world, Smith won it thanks to his talent. As a reminder, he won six victories in live tournaments and pocketed about $ 3.8 million in prize money. His biggest trophy is the $ 100,000 buy-in Challenge of the Aussie Millions 2012 that let him pocket a premium of more than a million dollars. But we must also mention his three victories in the side event of the EPT Monte Carlo.
For his part, Rettenmaier also gave all his best on this race especially during the last quarter of the year until the end to take the first place in the Global Poker Index. As charts, he has two trophies won at the World Poker Tour Bellagio and Cyprus and several cashes in major tournaments. Apart from these two leaders, other players were also near the best feat of the year if we only mention the French Bertrand Grospellier who was awarded the third place.
