Taxation: Some French poker players outraged by adjustments
Even if the income of poker as a game of chance according to the law, are not normally subject to tax income, the French tax administration does not consider this like this. Professional players who receive the tax bill, consider it as too harsh and are outraged. Like any other French citizen, except those who decided to go into exile and take up residence in a country with more lenient taxation, poker players are willing to pay their taxes. However, the IRS does not seem to understand what they effectively received and the same administration does not understand what they invested. To be heard, Julien Adrien and Allain Brécart decided to unveil some kind of injustice against them.
Firstly, it is poker and its income that are difficult to classify. However, professional players who have not made a bookkeeping are immediately subject to tax increased by 25%. But if this is not the case, their activity is therefore considered doubtful and risks another increase of 80%. Moreover, the explanation about various expenses incurred by the activity of many players (hotel accommodation, miscellaneous expenses ...) is difficult to justify because it does not necessarily meet the requirements of the tax authorities. Note that players must provide evidence that authenticate their declaration as invoices. The total amount claimed by the tax authorities is very high and can exceed the gains made by players during the relevant period. Julien Brécard and Adrien Allien are not against paying taxes. But they argued that the IRS exaggerated. Brécard suggested for the creation of an organization that will defend the causes of professional players.
