Macao: Exponential increase of casino revenue in 2012
The gambling industry, casino mainly, flourishes in Macau. This former Portuguese territory reassigned to China since 1999 is known worldwide for its activities related to casino and for some time for high stakes poker. According to the Bureau of Inspection and Coordination of games, the year 2012 has been very profitable. Indeed, Macao gambling sector ralize a turnover of 304.14 billion patacas or 28.67 billion Euro. The year before, casinos therein recorded a big leap of 42%! In 2012, it was only 13.5% but it is still a great achievement compared to other countries where casino is also a big activity. The reason for this decline is simple: the crisis has an effect on the number of attendance of players and on the bet of Chinese players. But that didn't prevented Macao to be in the head of countries where they the highest increases in the world were recorded.
The Chinese peninsula even exceeds Las Vegas and the difference between the two giants in 2012 is more and more important. Macau is the new global capital of gambling since it was associated with many renowned foreign groups since 2002. Its growth is due to Chinese players who form the vast majority of players. If we dissect, analyze deeply the numbers and statistics, it can be argued that business is picking up despite the crisis. Revenues rose nearly 20% on a year in December or 28,24 billion patacas while it was only 7.9% in November.
