Paris: A meeting between European regulators

An informal meeting of regulators of online gambling in several European countries including France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Germany took place in Paris on December 11 and 12, 2012. The purpose of this meeting is the searching for "national and European perspectives of online gaming industry," according to the statement of the French Regulatory Authority of online games or ARJEL. The participants all agreed on the fact that gambling can increase the risk of insecurity. Regulators therefore need to find an agreement to optimize exchanges to better regulate the market. The establishment of a system of regulation at the European level ishould be possible. The ARJEL did not forget to greet the German contribution to the debate in a statement. It also mentioned the success of the exchanges with the Gambling Commission in the United Kingdom.

Note that these regulators should still bring several improvements in the regulation of online gambling in their respective countries. In Germany, for example, the fact of having signed an Inter-State Treaty, moreover, is only applicable for sports betting market, is seen with displeasure by the European Commission. As regards the French market, it is the level of taxation that is the problem. It even caused the closure of several online poker websites in France. And the ARJEL decided to debate about this matter. As for Italy, the AAMS, directed by Luigi Magistro, plans to support the domain having difficulties. For the moment, no major decision that could rejoice poker and other online games operators or players have been taken. But the exchange continues. Regulators will therefore meet in Lisbon between the end of June and the beginning of July 2013 and in Rome in late 2013 to discuss about the question.
