Morgan Stanley: The future of poker is social gaming
Morgan Stanley, one of the largest investment bank in the world, provides according to a study it launched that in a near future, social gaming and poker, will converge. In the case of social gaming, Zynga Poker of Facebook is one of the most developed with an average of just over 105,400 users in seven days against 25,600 on the global market leader PokerStars. This union would be based on the existence of common interests between the two sectors such as the offering of leisure service but with a bonus in the one side and real money on the other. And to show more the advantage of this complementarity, Morgan Stanley argues that since the economic crisis of 2008 and Black Friday, the stock price of the two sectors are falling, which requires complementarity.
In fact, according to a study performed on a time interval between 2003 and 2015, it would be more advantageous, if not profitable to convert a portion of social gamers in online real money player. This conversion may, however, encounter some obstacles if we only talked about the regulation of the two game universe. Indeed, social games are not as well regulated as online gambling. While online gambling such as poker are reserved only for major of 18 years, social gaming is open to anyone with a social network account such as Facebook. It's also the case of license. The authorization to become a provider of some online games such as sports betting is not given to all platforms. This idea of Morgan Stanley on the convergence of social gaming and online gambling is is therefore facing some difficulties before seeing the day.
