Online poker: Belgium risk infringement proceedings
The framework of online poker market in Belgium is the subject of many criticism from several operators. According to reports, they seized the European Commission which decided to seek clarification from the Belgian State concerning this matter. It announced that an infringement procedure will be launched against Belgium because the country does not comply with the clause of the Treaties. Note that twelve operators, including William Hill, Sportingbet and Bwin.party, decided to denounce fervently the irregularities committed by the Belgian State in the field of online poker market legislation on last November 19.
It turns out that for a Belgian license, you must become a partner of a land based casino operator in the country. Creating a blacklist is also considered as a form of intimidation created by the Belgian judicial authorities. As a reminder, the Belgian police arrested the CEO of bwin.party playroom, Norbert Teufelberger two weeks ago. This latter has been investigated for having continued to offer his services on the Belgian market while the website is part of the blacklist. Faced with the threat of infringement proceedings, the Belgian Gaming Commission replied that it put in place a system that allows operators to be more successful and able to protect players. It therefore claims support from the European Commission, accusing operators of thinking only their own interests.
