France: Towards a taxation of gains of more than € 30,000

In addition to the tax control here and there on the majority of professional poker players and online poker operators, the tax administration in France could go further and this time, the deputy of the majority, Yann Galut wants to go further and wishes to pass a new draft tax on exceptional gains, taxing gambling and poker. The project consists of a 15% tax on all earnings over € 30,000. This tax should include both professional players and amateur in tournaments. Nevertheless, we still do not know the details of the project especially the taking procedure, will it be made in the income statement or directly taken by the poker room?

The vote of the project could once again be a bad news for French operators of online poker who are already in a critical phase because of too restrictive fiscal pressures. Already a few days ago, another project of taxing gross gaming for intercommunal was also presented in the National Assembly. This is the project of Jean-Jacques Urvoas, elected PS who is the initiator of this text concerning the casino world and the online poker market legal in France since 2010 and which registered a quite important turnover. But a draft does not necessarily conduct to a reform. Last week, during the review of the French Finance Act 2013 at the National Assembly, the MP of Quimper Urvoas filed an amendment to reform the “communal sampling in product of casino games."
