WSOP Europe: Watson wins the Majestic High Roller
The High Roller is an event that all poker enthusiasts expect in a major tournament. Even if the Majestic High Roller of the World Series of Poker Europe is devoid of a WSOP bracelet, the event always attracts the biggest names of poker like Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Sam Trickett, Erik Seidel, John Juanda, Tom Dwan, Tony G, Steve O'Dwyer or the Malaysian billionaire Richard Young. In all, the Majestic High Roller of 50,000 buy-in registered 49 subscribers with 11 rebuys that raise the prizepool to 2.88 million. The first removed of the eight cashes walked away with a prize of 115,000 while the winner pocketed 1 million.
The event lasted three days, after which nine players were still in contention for the title and the bubble burst when Winfred Yu got eliminated by Philipp Gruissem in the 9th place. Erik Seidel, Phil Ivey, Tony G, Roger Hairabedian and Jean Noel Thorel were also among the eliminated players without having been paid. Adept of High Roller, the Canadian who started the final day as short stack with 299,000 chips was able to resist face to player with big stack as John Juanda (2.5 million), Richard Yong and Phillip Gruissem (1.3 million). Mike Watson emerged as the winner after a head's up against John Juanda who had as objective a sixth WSOP title. Juanda settled for the 600,000 prize promised for the runner-up, while Richard Yong, 3rd of the tournament, pocketed 400,000.
