Extortion and threats of poker players: Inquiry of six persons in France
The world of online poker is currently considered as a boon especially for financial and professional players accustomed to this universe. However, online poker players are not immune to fraud and vandalism if we speak only about the many cases in recent months in France. Indeed, criminals use very violent methods to meet their goals. The principle of their scam is simple. Given that poker players need money to take part in competitions with large buy-in often very high, scammers lend them the amount they wish to borrow. In return, the lenders often ask incredible interest rate and often act disproportionately to try to recover these amounts.
According to the latest news, six persons have been arrested in recent months in France as being suspected and even having threatened and racketed poker players following an agreement of loan of money. These racketeers specializing in scam and extortion, including 5 from the same family, would have even taken the children of their victims to recover amounts up to 200,000 after having borrowed them 100,000. More than thirty people are currently included in the list of victims of these acts. Unfortunately, only a few of them dared to complaint as fearing the return of criminal acts that continue to threaten them.
