Macau High Stakes Challenge: Victory of the local player Stanley Choi
While many poker professionals came in Macau to participate in the Macau Poker High Stakes Challenge, itÂ’s a local player, Stanley Choi, who won the victory after having ousted Guan Zhu Fai in the final duel. Note that in this Super High Roller tournament open for a buy-in of HK $ 2,000,000, the organizers registered the participation of 71 players and 21 rebuys. The total prize pool reached therefore U.S. $ 23,511,128. The winner had then the joy to pocket a large reward of HK $ 50,000,000 equivalent to 6.45 million U.S. dollars. The Macau High Stakes Challenge became then one of the biggest poker events held in the Asian continent. With the structure adopted, the game was very quick. And many players experienced an early elimination. They include Andrew Robl, Joe Hachem, Brian Rast and Brian Powell. Nam Le, Johnny Chan, Erik Seidel, Mike McDonald, Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan and Vivak Rajkumar joined them on the bench of removed after a few rounds.
In the other side, some poker stars were able to play poker with professionalism during this special stage, among them is John Juanda. He finished 5th and pocketed a gain of 1.6 million U.S. dollars. Phil Ivey and Sam Trickett also managed to reach the final table. They respectively ended at the 8th and 7th position. We should also mention the 10th place of Philipp Gruissem, the 11th place of Di Dang and the 12th place of JP Kelly.
