California: Online poker at an impasse
In the U.S.A, the opening of the online poker market is still a real subject of debate especially regarding the regulation at the federal level. About the intrastate regulating, only Nevada managed until here to establish an adequate regulatory system, an environment that could soon let the authorities open the market. California wanted to follow its example. But a priori, poker enthusiasts in California are far from having a same success. Indeed, it turns out that many bills have been proposed by proponents of the regulation of online poker in California since 2007 and none of them managed to succeed.
The President of the Senate of the State of California, Darrell Steinberg, who is in favor of market regulation, is also pessimistic. He believes that failure is predictable, at least until the holding of the parliamentary session of August 31. As a reminder, he teamed with the Democrat, Rod Wright, to present a more suited bill on last February. Unfortunately, the text did not convince the authorities. The package of $ 30 million for the license application and the monthly tax rate were part of the most criticized. What will make it even more difficult the opening of online poker market in California is that the California Online Poker Association composed of 29 Native American tribes and 31 gambling halls is also against the idea.
