The World Poker Tour (WPT) Merit Cyprus began on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Note that this is the inaugural stage of the 11th season of the circuit. They were some 327 participants to have started the Main event accessible for $ 4,400 buy-in. The first day of competition was very eventful. And it turns out that the starting field dropped quickly because there are only 132 players vying for the rest of the competition. On Day 1A, the registered field was 163 participants, including top players such as Gaelle Baumann, Chris Moorman, Erik Cajelais, Marvin Rettenmaier, Daniel Cates and Nicolas Chouity. But it's Maxim Panyak who was at the head of the 67 survivors for the Day 2. He amassed 255,800 chips.
On Day 1B, 164 players joined the poker room of Merit Casino to attend the event. After ten levels of play, many players have been eliminated. Already known for his talent, David Rheem was the best and accumulated the largest stack of the party at the end of the meeting. With 291,500 chips in hand therefore, the finalist of the World Series of Poker 2008 and champion of the WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Poker Classic, will begin the second day of competition as chipleader. Other well known players have also registered during the Day 1B and they are among the 65 survivors like Giuseppe Pantaleo, former WPT Amneville champion, Sam El Sayed, Dominik Nitsche and Nicolas Chouity.
