Heartland Poker Tour: Greg Raymer won the main event at Route 66
The Route 66 Casino Hotel Albuquerque, New Mexico, hosted the Heartland Poker Tour final table which took place on Monday. Many players and stars, a total of 131 participants attended the Main Event of $ 1,500 buy-in but in the end, the final table was played between six players : Steven Carruthers, Allan Hedin, Benjie Benavidez, Greg Raymer, Scott Dougherty and Robert Crawford. Greg Raymer was the chipleader at the final table with a stack of 1,081,000 chips. He was closely followed by Hedin with 985,000 chips while the rest of the group had less than 700,000 chips. Crawford and Dougherty statrted the final table as short stack with respectively a stack of 371,000 and 234,000.
The third best player of the World Series of Poker 2009 led the title race and never let his advantage until becoming the new champion of the Heartland Poker Tour. The final table lasted more than three hours and the first to be eliminated was Steven Carruthers who pocketed in anyway $ 14,375. At the 5th and 4th place was Allan Hedin and Benjie Benaviden. Scott Dougherty was eliminated in the third place by Greg Raymer and this latter faced Robert Crawford during the final head's up. With 68% of the chips in play in his possession, Greg Raymer put pressure on his opponent who finally cracked. Greg Raymer pocketed $ 71,875 for his victory. The next HPT will be held from September 9 to 16 at Golden Casino & Poker Parlour Colorado.
