Online poker regulation: Signature of a Franco-British agreement
On July 1st, the ARJEL or French Regulatory Authority of online games signed a partnership with the Gambling Commission of Great Britain. Note that a common agreement among different European countries should be implemented from September. But meanwhile, the ARJEL multiplies collaboration with different online gaming regulators in Europe. This cooperation with the Gambling Comission has been realized to improve the security measures already taken, which will let better control the market of online poker and to protect players. It should be effectively mentioned that despite the regulations imposed by French authorities, many online poker rooms continue to operate without a license on the French market. This agreement should be the effective way to fight against illegal operators which only prejudice legal operators in a market already highly competitive and sanctioned by a less advantageous tax strategy.
The Gambling Commission would be ready to help the ARJEL during controls through the exchange of information as the UK market is open to various European and international operators. The agreement was signed by the President of the ARJEL, Jean-Francois Vilotte, and the Executive Director of the Gambling Commission, Jenny Williams. Note that the Franco-British agreement will have no major impact on players of both countries. Fans of online poker in France after this treaty that the ARJEL will take example on strategy and tax position adopted by the British authorities.
