Extension of the WSOP: More bracelets to be distributed scares some observers
As announced a few days ago, players were privileged to hear the birth of another stage of the prestigious poker tournament World Series of Poker (WSOP). This tournament established in 1970 have a high profile among poker enthusiasts including professionals. Instead of reinforcing the reputation of the WSOP in the world, the organizers seem determined to extend the circuit across the five continents and may create the opposite effect. Indeed, by expanding the tournament all around the world, the WSOP may no longer be as mythical as before and therefore, the tournament is likely to attract fewer and fewer players including the best in its greatest appointment because on one side, there are other tournaments which begin recording a success almost continental and in the other side, the fact of winning a WSOP bracelet is no longer a real prestige because today, there are now a total of three annual tournaments: the WSOP in Las Vegas, the WSOP Europe and the WSOP Asia-Pacific.
With this initiative to extend the circuit from one year to another, specialists and professionals of live poker see in this development of the WSOP a growth which outcome may lead an afloat distribution of bracelets in this series. To recap, the latest in the series, the WSOP Asia-Pacific, is scheduled from April 4 to 15, 2013 for its first edition to be held at Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.
