Spain: Online poker will be legalized from June 1st
Finally, passionate of online poker in Spain can be happy because they can play freely and legally poker from June 1st, 2012. Indeed, its authorities has finally given the approval for the official opening of the spanish online poker market. The details of the bill regarding the Iberian online poker remain roughly the same as those promulgated by the French authorities, but Spanish will have the opportunity to play other poker games like Stud and Draw. Currently, more than 60 operators submitted applications for licenses among them, leaders in the online gaming industry. Once the application approved, they can all operate legally in the country.
At first glance, the Spanish online poker market will also be sealed as other European countries like France. However, the Spanish regulatory authority leaves a glimmer of hope for an opening at European and even international level. According to the vice president, Carlo Alfonso, the objective is to provide international liquidity to ensure a better future for the sector. In this context, he indicated his desire to participate in the cooperation agreement between the French ARJEL and the Italian AAMS. On taxation and other matters that need attention before the opening of the market, it is at the "Gaming in Spain Conference 2012", currently taking place in Madrid that it will be discussed. Operators who have already operated in Spain before the legalization are in a difficult situation because they seem to have to pay back taxes.
