UKIPT Nottingham: The trophy won by a veteran
At first glance, Robert Baguley is not a regular poker player, but he demonstrated that he has talent by winning the trophy of the United Kingdom & Ireland Poker Tour Nottingham (UKIPT). Aged 60 years old, he became the champion face to his young opponents having 18 to 21 years for most. Regular at Dusk Till Dawn, Baguley won his place for this Main event with $ 1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool by participating in a live satellite tournament open for a buy-in of $ 224. And at the end, he pocketed then the enormous sum of £ 210,400 and the trophy. So he comes to prove that seniors still have a place in major live tournaments.
The UKIPT Nottingham was a huge success because it attracted a field of 1,625 participants. During the third day of competition, there were only 76 remaining players. And at the end of the day, the final table at eight stood out with Iqbal Ahmed as leader. During the final day, it took two hours before a player leaves the table. This unlucky was Ian Senior. After his elimination, the pace picked up and after four hours of play, the final result was known. James Cummings, Nick Woodward, Hasmukh Khodiyara and Barry McMahon surrendered all and were respectively at the 7th, 6th, 5th and 4 th place. After Grant Pirie, who ousted a lot of players during this final, was at his turn eliminated at the third place, Baguley and Iqbal Ahmed started the final head's up. Ahmed maintained his leadership by holding almost the double of his opponent's stack. But the veteran was able to oust him. He however pocketed a nice prize of £ 125,000 for having been the runner-up.
