EPT Madrid: Sergey Baranov lead after the Day 1A
The Season 8 of the European Poker Tour (EPT) reaches now its 10 th step. The event took place since last Monday in Madrid, Spain. During the opening day of the tournament, the poker room of the Gran Casino Madrid was invaded by 125 poker players who came to participate in the Day 1A of the 5,300 main event. During the first stopover of the EPT in the Spanish capital in 2011, the best players at the international level were part of the field of 686 participants generating a total prize pool of 6.8 million, allowing the winner Ivan Freitez to receive a huge gain of 1.5 million. The same record attendance is expected for this new edition.
On Monday, several major players such as the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2011 (PCA) finalist Anton Ionel but also Adeniya Martins were seen, they both entered in the top 10 at the end of the day. As for French players, Alain Roy, who finished the day with 30,800 chips and Christophe Benzimra holder of 18,400 chips are among the 67 survivors for the Day 2. Arnaud Mattern also registered for the tournament and participate despite his injury before the start of the game. Indeed, victim of a fall down in the stairs, the French poker pro preferred to continue the game instead of going to the hospital. So far, his perseverance was rewarded with a place for the second day of competition. Holder of the biggest stack of 152,500 at the end of Day 1A, Sergey Baranov occupy the place of chip leader. For the day 1B, organizers hope to increase attendance.
