WPT Mauritius : Gary Lentin as winner, Kool Shen bubble boy of the final
For its first time in the Indian Ocean, the World Poker Tour National Series in Mauritius has been a success even if the event is not on the main board of the World Poker Tour. In all, the event gathered a total of 290 players who fought a fierce battle throughout the five days of competition. The WPT Mauritius was open to all players around the world who could pay the modest sum of 1,200. At the entrance of Day 1A, 139 players were registered, but at the end of the day, only 60 of them were qualified for the next round. These 86 survivors of Day 1A were joined by 86 survivors of Day 1B of 151 enrolled. The Day 2 hosted 146 players who survived from the two first days and they defined the 35 players qualified for Day 3.
Many professional players participated in the event as the WSOP champion Elie Payan, the WPT champion Guillaume Darcourt, Jean-Jacques Mars, Jean Paul Pasqualini, Philippe Ktorza or Bruno "Kool Shen" Lopes. But it was finally the South African Gary Lentin who wins the title and the 70,000 provided for the winner. Having failed at the threshold of the final table, Kool Shen was the bubble boy of this WPT tropical ambience and settled himself for a gain of 12,000. Fabrizio Ricci was for his pas defeated at the final head's up face to Gary Lentin but still won 42,000 for his runner up place.
