WSOP Africa: The Main Event won by the local player Joe-Boy Rahme
The World Series of Poker Africa 2012 experienced an improvement in terms of attendance rate compared to the first edition. The amount of the buy-in reduced and the presence of the ambassador Scotty Nguyen, a famous professional poker no longer to present, are certainly the causes of this considerable progress in the field. The $ 3,300 buy-in main event of the WSOP Africa indeed raised a total of 218 participants generating a prize pool of $ 634,380. After three days of competition, it was the local player Joe-Boy Rahme who won the title of champion of the WSOP Africa 2012, the lion's share of the prize pool totalling $ 158,595 and the gold ring.
But his access at this top of the podium of the Emerald Casino Resort in Johannesburg has not been a cakewalk. Indeed, two champions of side event tournaments held during this same edition, Gregory Donaldson, champion of the Event 1 and Jason Strauss, winner of Event 2, were among the finalists. However, they had to settle each for the 3 rd and 5 th place. During the final heads'up, Joe-Boy Rahme faced Ivan Pakkiri, a duel that did not last long. Thanks to his talent, Rahme acquired the title of winner while his runner up settled with the second prize of $ 98,012. Regarding the results of the other finalists, James Parker finished 4 th, Marc Joseph 6th, Brad Flynn 7th, Matt Mullhall 8th and Brian Bouwer 9th.
