ARJEL: New measures to limit the addiction
Online poker experienced a real success in France since the opening of the market of online gambling. Thus, to reduce the risk of addiction in France, the Regulatory Authority of Online Game (ARJEL) decided to take a new action against operators of poker but also for players. Indeed, the ARJEL announced the limitation of maximum bonus that operators of online poker could award to players by limiting it to 500 with a minimum of 90 days. The financial reward offered should not exceed 100% of the deposit. The number of players that can be sponsored by a registered player on the same poker website shouldnt exceed the number of 5 per month. Finally, the bonus that players receive after a loss is now prohibited.
These decisions were taken at the assembly of the ARJEL, held last October 27 and will take effect from January 1st, 2012. Note that these new measures concerns only online poker rooms. Sports betting and horse betting websites, according to the ARJEL have already established a preventive measure to fight against addiction. In the first half of 2011, online poker websites distributed nearly 44 million of financial reward to poker players as it is limited to only 10 million for horse betting and 6 million for sports betting. These measures should encourage the few poker sites in France, which were distinguished by their financial rewards from 1,000 to lower them.
